Matthew Arnold

ABOUT Matthew.

Matthew Arnold is a Grammy-nominated tenor, conductor, educator, and bandleader whose musical life spans opera, classical music, jazz, musical theatre, and the great American popular song tradition.

As a professional tenor, Matthew has performed with opera companies and orchestras throughout the United States and Europe. His work on the concert stage is complemented by an equally deep love of American popular music: he performs as a big band and jazz vocalist and leads ensembles devoted to swing, traditional jazz, jump blues, and classic American entertainment.

Matthew is also an active conductor and artistic director, bringing together professional musicians, community singers, and audiences through ambitious choral and orchestral programming. As Artistic Director of the Our Lady Star of the Sea Concert Series in Marblehead, Massachusetts, he has developed performances ranging from major symphonic and choral works to chamber music, recitals, and special events.

Teaching is another central part of Matthew’s musical work. Drawing on his experience as an operatic tenor, jazz and big band singer, conductor, and ensemble musician, he encourages students to develop healthy, reliable vocal technique while exploring a broad range of musical styles. His goal is to help singers become versatile, curious, expressive, and confident musicians.

Whether singing on the operatic stage, fronting a big band, conducting an orchestra, or working one-on-one with a student, Matthew approaches music with the same philosophy: strong musicianship, stylistic curiosity, and a belief that great music should communicate directly with an audience.

"A golden voice, strong, rich and surprisingly mature for his age..."
